Please read before registering:
- Participants will have to hike and carry tools to the work site and then hike back out. If you have any doubts about your physical abilities, you should talk to the Workshop organizer first (see name and contact information below).
- The Workshop is intended for new and potential trail maintainers who want basic skill instruction and development and for more experienced trail maintainers who want to improve their basic skills and learn advanced skills. New and potential trail maintainers will usually participate in the Trail Work Basics training after which they will work on a Novice-level project. Those with limited experience will be placed on a Novice crew to work on projects such as rolling grade dip, waterbar, and checkdam installation. More experienced participants will be placed on an advanced crew to work on projects such as turnpikes, crib walls, and lateral drains. Crews will be led by experienced PATC volunteers and NPS trail professionals.
- A PATC member who is not currently a trail maintainer but is interested in becoming one is strongly encouraged to participate in a one-day Saturday work trip in advance of the Workshop. These work trips typically focus on less-complex projects that are more appropriate for the inexperienced. Contact for more information.
- No pets of any kind are permitted to accompany a participant to the Workshop group camping area or the work sites.
- Family members / boyfriends / girlfriends / partners / significant others are discouraged from coming along and camping nearby "just to have fun" while you are out working on the trails.
- No one will be permitted to accompany any of the work crews unless they have registered as a participant in the Workshop.
